Introduction

Welcome to Citizenship Test Australia. This service is run by Pixie Education Pty Ltd (ABN 58 692 683 720) ("we", "us" or "our"). We respect your privacy and want you to understand, in plain English, what information we collect, why we collect it, and what choices you have.

This policy covers our website at citizenshippracticetest.com.au and our mobile apps for iOS and Android (together, the "App"). We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). This policy forms part of our Terms and conditions.

The short version

• You can study for free without creating an account.
• Your quiz progress and scores are saved on your own device, not on our servers.
• If you choose to give us your email, we use it to send study tips and to look after your Premium purchase. You can unsubscribe at any time.
• We use anonymous analytics to understand how the App is used and to fix problems.
• We do not show ads, sell your information, or track you across other companies' apps.

Information we collect

Information you give us

• Email address for study tips. After a free mock test or chapter test, you can enter your email to receive study tips. This is optional. We save the email you enter together with the score you got on that test, so the tips we send suit your level.
• Account details on the website. To use Premium on the website you sign in with a magic link sent to your email, or with Google sign-in. We store your email address and, if you use Google, the name on your Google profile. We do not use passwords. The mobile app has no accounts and no sign-in.
• Preferences.Settings such as your chosen translation language and light or dark theme. In the app these stay on your device; on the website, a signed-in user's translation language is saved to their account.
• Support messages. If you email us, we keep your message and contact details so we can reply and improve the App.

Purchase information

• In the mobile app, Premium is bought through the Apple App Store or Google Play. Apple or Google handle your payment and we never see your card or bank details. We use RevenueCat to confirm which Premium plan you hold. We receive the product bought, the purchase and renewal dates, and a random identifier for your app installation. This lets us unlock Premium, restore your purchase on a new phone and handle refunds.
• On the website, Premium is bought through Stripe Checkout. Stripe handles your payment details. We receive your email address, the amount paid and a Stripe reference so we can unlock Premium for your account.

Information collected automatically

• Usage data. Which screens you open, tests you start and finish, and features you use. In the mobile app this is collected by Amplitude, which may also capture anonymous recordings of how screens are used (which screens appear and where you tap) to help us find and fix bugs. This is linked to a random device identifier, not to your name or email.
• Device and technical data. Device type, operating system, app version, language, country or region, IP address, and crash or error reports.
• Website analytics and cookies.The website may use Google Analytics, which sets cookies to measure visits and page views. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The website also keeps a sign-in token in your browser's local storage while you are signed in.

Information that stays on your device

Your quiz attempts, scores, per-topic progress and mistake list are stored only on your device: in your browser's local storage on the website, and in the app's local storage on your phone or tablet. They are not sent to our servers. You can delete them at any time by using Reset progresson the Me tab in the app, or by clearing your browser's site data on the website.

How we use your information

We use the information we collect to:

• Provide the App, including unlocking Premium, restoring purchases and showing translations.
• Send study tips and product updates to the email you gave us. Every email includes a way to unsubscribe.
• Answer your questions and provide customer support.
• Improve the App by understanding which features are used, finding bugs and making the questions and explanations better.
• Keep the App safe, including preventing fraud and misuse of purchases.
• Meet our legal obligations, such as keeping tax and payment records.

How we share your information

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with data brokers or advertisers. We share information only with the service providers below, who process it on our behalf and may use it only to provide their service to us:

• Apple and Google — process in-app purchases and app distribution.
• RevenueCat — manages in-app purchase status and restores.
• Stripe — processes payments made on the website.
• Amplitude — analytics and anonymous session recordings for the mobile app.
• Google — Google Analytics on the website and Google sign-in.
• Email and hosting providers — deliver our emails and host our servers and database.

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to:

• protect the rights, property or safety of Pixie Education Pty Ltd, our users or others;
• investigate fraud, security issues or a breach of our Terms;
• respond to a lawful request from a government authority.

If our business is sold or merged, your information may be transferred to the new owner, who must continue to handle it under this policy.

Overseas disclosure

Some of the providers above store and process information outside Australia, including in the United States. Where we send information overseas we take reasonable steps to make sure it is protected in a way that is consistent with Australian privacy law. By using the App, you agree to your information being handled this way.

Data retention

• Study-tips emails are kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them.
• Website account details are kept while your account is active. If you ask us to delete your account, we delete your personal information within 30 days.
• Purchase records are kept for as long as the law requires, usually seven years for Australian tax records.
• Analytics data is kept in anonymised form and is not linked to your name or email.
• Data on your device stays until you reset your progress, clear your browser data or delete the app.

Security

We take reasonable steps to protect your information, including:

• encrypting data in transit between the App and our servers (HTTPS/TLS);
• passwordless sign-in with short-lived, signed links, so there are no passwords to leak;
• limiting access to personal information to people who need it to run the App;
• using reputable providers to handle payments, so we never store card details.

No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. If we become aware of a data breach that is likely to cause you serious harm, we will notify you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner as the law requires.

Your rights and choices

You can, at any time:

• Access or correct the personal information we hold about you by emailing privacy@citizenshippracticetest.com.au.
• Delete your information, including your study-tips email and any website account, by emailing us. We will confirm once it is done.
• Unsubscribe from study tips using the link in any email, or by emailing us.
• Clear data on your device using Reset progress in the app or your browser settings.
• Manage cookies for the website in your browser settings.
• Manage your subscription in your Apple ID or Google Play settings. Refunds for app purchases are handled by Apple or Google. Refunds for website purchases are handled by us; see our Support page.

If you are in the European Union, United Kingdom or another region with its own privacy laws, you may have additional rights, such as data portability and the right to object to processing. Email us and we will help.

If you have a complaint about how we handle your information, please contact us first and we will respond within 30 days. If you are not satisfied, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.

Children's privacy

The App is a study tool for people applying for Australian citizenship and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has given us personal information, please email us and we will delete it.

Third-party links

The App links to third-party websites, such as the Department of Home Affairs and the app stores. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites and encourage you to read their policies.

App store privacy disclosure

In line with Apple App Store and Google Play requirements, we confirm that:

• we do not display third-party advertisements in the App;
• we do nottrack you across other companies' apps or websites, and we do not use the advertising identifier (IDFA);
• we do not share your information with data brokers;
• in-app purchases are processed by the Apple App Store or Google Play, and we use RevenueCat to manage purchase status. Purchase history is used only to provide Premium and is not used for advertising.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, for significant changes, let you know by email if we have your address or by a notice in the App. Continuing to use the App after a change means you accept the updated policy.
